The Power of Listening: Understanding User Needs

"Listen, listen, and listen!" This is our golden rule for truly connecting with users. In the initial stage, I hold back on asking too many questions, preferring to simply listen as users present their problem or idea to the team. Any questions we do ask at this point are typically to help users articulate their request clearly, ensuring we grasp exactly what they're aiming for. When users can precisely identify their needs from the start, it's a huge win for our development process, helping us avoid unnecessary changes down the line. While we certainly don't fear changes, any mid-development shifts mean reinvesting time and resources into re-identifying requests, redesigning solutions, and restarting development — which, as you can imagine, impacts our timelines, efforts, and budgets.
